As the lead entity for the Greater Worcester Region's Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG), CMRPC released the Greater Worcester Priority Climate Action Plan (GWPCAP) in March 2024 following extensive research and public outreach. To vet GWPCAP priority measures, CMRPC worked with the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) and Northeast Connecticut Council of Governments (NECCOG) to promote a public survey.
Over the past six months, Greater Worcester Region residents and stakeholders have shared thoughts on the GWPCAP priority measures in this recently closed survey. The survey results will inform the development of enhanced measures for the next CPRG deliverable, the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP).
The CCAP will provide a roadmap to net-zero emissions in the region by 2050. Next steps in the development of the CCAP including continuing to conduct stakeholder discussions, working with Weston and Sampson to finalize a baseline greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory, GHG projections, and GHG targets, and then developing potential CCAP measures to be screened at public scenario planning workshops.
